Fresheners for drawers and wardrobes

Are you tired of perfumed sachets for drawers which often have a strong, pungent perfume?

Would you like to try your hand at making some attractive items which can be used to freshen your wardrobe?

With just a few easily procured elements, including walnuts, you can create little balls to which you can apply your favourite perfume!

You will need:

  • Cotton wool, wadding or some other material for padding
  • Coloured fabric
  • Walnuts
  • Plaster flakes or powder
  • Water
  • Moulds or plaster shapes in plastic or silicone
  • Hot glue
  • Perfumed essences of your choice

Procedure:

Crack the walnuts in half and hollow out the shells.

Make a ball with the cotton wool (or padding material) and wrap it in a piece of coloured fabric, then put it inside the walnut shell, in which you have put a dab of glue to hold it in place.

The base of your scented ball is ready; all you have to do now is prepare the plaster shapes which, in addition to being decorative, will prolong the perfume.

You can buy ready-made plaster shapes for wedding favours, but can you compare that with the satisfaction of making your own?

Preparing plaster shapes is very easy and the instructions and doses are usually give on the packet of plaster powder which you have bought. All you need is a bowl, a little water to add to the plaster powder, then stir until you obtain an even mixture to pour into the moulds. The smaller the moulds, the quicker the drying times.

Once the plaster shapes are ready, carefully turn them out and stick them with a dab of glue to the ball which you put to one side earlier.

The final touch: a squirt of your favourite perfume.

The scented balls can be placed in drawers as they are; if you’d rather hang them in the wardrobe or around your home to freshen the room, just glue on a ribbon and that’s all there is to it!

Child’s play, isn’t it? Come on then, have a go yourself!
